Saturday 11 June

This evening Yanni and I went to a “Malawi’s got Talent” program filmed at a local bar in Lilongwe (Malawi doesn’t have much if anything in the way of town hall’s and theatres).  It was a big bar that had a dozed large TV screen’s showing sports games - football, Wales vs someone; a ladies golf match; that’s about as familiar with it as I became.  Floor 2 was a large empty room with a few built in chairs around the side.  I was more than a little nervous about the huge bulge in the ceiling down the ‘stage’ end - particularly when the performances began and a hundred or two poured into the room.  If the ceiling were to fall in - nothing would be more likely - there would be all these people trying to escape down a single not very wide staircase - it all made me nervous.

The performances were varied, one female dancer who certainly knew how to shake her booty, and a rapper calling for tougher sentences for killers of albinos.  I will try to attach a couple of pictures, but they often down upload very easily so if not tonight, soon.

Yanni has been given the job of looking after a large baby bird, initially thought to be an eagle, in the vet’s clinic.  A real honour, this, as very few have access to the little thing. Yanni tells me it detests humans and lets any human stupid enough to come near it know this vociferously.  Which of course makes her love it all the more
